TacOps-1 Charging Handle

Why the TacOps-1 is not just another charging handle
  Patent Pending
TacOps-1 Ambidextrous Tactical charging handle is the newest and most effective ACTUAL combat innovation that has been designed specifically for the AR platform in some time.  Not just another accessory; but a well thought out concept that dramatically changes and enhances the way your weapon is deployed, especially with optics on-board!

All users of the AR platform, especially those utilizing their weapon in combat or law enforcement operations know, that re-charging the weapon in any position, dictates the shooter come out of their Eyes On-Sight, High Ready, off hand or prone position to do so, wasting precious moments to reload or clear a weapon jam, while removing their eyes & situational awareness from potential threats.
This issue has always been compounded greatly by the use of optics, especially those extending rearward over the charging handle, even a short distance.  The TacOps-1 completely changes all this, adding speed, safety and operator assurance through faster, smoother handling of the weapon, and less body movement.

1. Sniper Ops: ONLY design that allows fast access with larger optics.
2. Cycle bolt in hidden prone position with minimal body movement.
3. High ready position; eyes & weapon on target during CQB operations.
4. Eyes & weapon on target during reload and jam clearing.
5. Ambidextrous design for traditional manipulation of handle if required.
6. Center thumb release button for more natural mechanical advantage
7.Clear all optics and allow for lowest rearward mounting position.
8. Ergonomically correct for use with single point slings.
9. CNC manufactured from 7075 Billet aluminum with matt black anodize.
10. Manufactured in an ISO -9000 rated facility for maximum quality.
11. Designed and tested by former US Army Ranger Battalion Sniper.
12. 42% larger roll pin & 7 pound spring to reduce potential blow-back.
13. 100% American made from 7075 billet aluminum.

             The TacOps-1 handle not only
improves upon the operators ability to
                employ their weapon in traditional
                  fashion; but the TacOps-1 expands
your choices for this function, along

The TacOps-1 charging handle of course is not limited to Police and military.
Many Varmint hunters employ large optics which are impossible to get to as well.  Another point to note would be the ease of charging your rifle with the right hand while in the prone Sniping Varmints!   The TacOps-1: The only AR part designed in years that can actually change the way you employ your Black Rifle!

Competative Shooter

I recently had the pleasure of T and E'ing Mecharmor's Tacops-1 ambidextrious charging handle in an AR-10. I run my rifles hard and they need to work, at all times, under any conditions. I am a competative shooter. My rifle needs to run in Oklahoma talcum powder red dirt and Texas sand as well as ice, snow and rain. I will coat a rifle in blowing dust, bang it off of concrete culverts, drag it through mud, drop it, pull it, smack it into barracades, grind it into the rocks when i fall on it, chamber a round with gravel in the port...you name it. The Tacops-1 is the best charging handle available...period and end of story.

Its design has everyone else wondering why they didn't do it and its quality has them saying wow. It is the only design on the market that does not feel like an afterthought and it is built incredibly well.

I run an AR with a big optic on it (Premier 5-25) and this handle is easy to reach under the big eyepeice, a standard handle just doesn't cut it.

I appreciate every aspect of this handle, stop searching for the perfect charging handle...this is it.

TacOps Charging Handle

The TacOps charging handle is nothing short of outstanding! I was putting together a left-handed rifle for 3G competition and needed a charging handle that had the catch release on the right side, would be easy to locate and operate even when partially covered by an optic, and was robust enough to handle a one-handed charge without fail. I called MechArmor, and talked with Van. He answered a few questions I had, and explained their product design in more detail. I ordered one, and less than two days later, it was in my mailbox. That's Fast. Install was straight forward, finish and fitment was excellent. First impression I had after install was that this handle was much larger than a standard handle, and I was concerned about it catching or snagging on a jacket or shirt. After handling the rifle for a few minutes, I knew that the wider width would not be a negative. Operation is exactly what I was looking for. The catch release on the back of the handle is positioned perfectly for a one-handed pinch-and-push. The handle shape and extra width makes locating and operating the handle under an optic very easy, even with gloves on. Right or left handed operation, this handle does everything I needed it to do. I will be purchasing another.

Every so often a new whiz-bang product rolls in here and actually lives up to the hype.
I'm here to tell you about two of the coolest must have items that I've seen in years. TAC OPS-1

Every so often a product for the AR platform shows up that makes even the most jaded of us do a double take.  Usually someone just came up with a way to hang a coffee maker off the left side without taking up too much rail space, rare is the item that you actually need.

The boys over at MechArmor have outdone themselves by making a charging handle that actually makes sense and works like its intended too.
For those of you with optics up top, this is a must have.  For those who "slap charge" this is far more than a must have - no more scarring your upper due to twisting of the stock T.
In function the TacOps makes everything else seem like it's an airsoft unit.

Available for the 5.56/223 as well as the 7.62/308 versions of the AR platform, this is just flat the ONE item you'll wonder why the manufacturers didn't think of to begin with.

There is a link at the bottom where you can read a bit more about this, but here's the teaser:

The all new Tac-Ops1 is the newest and most effective ACTUAL combat innovation that has been designed specifically for the AR platform in some time. NOT just another accessory; but a well thought out innovation that dramatically changes the way your weapon is deployed, especially with optics on-board!

All users of the AR platform, especially those utilizing their weapon in combat or law enforcement operations know, that re-charging the weapon in any position, dictates that the shooter come out of their on-sight off hand or prone shooting positions to do so, wasting precious moments to reload or clear their weapon with their eye's off target. This issue has always been compounded greatly by the use of optic's, especially those which extend rearward over the charging handle even a small amount.  The TacOps-1 completely changes all this, adding speed, safety, and operator assurance, through faster & smoother handling of your weapon.

For my AR-10 308:

The poor charging handle! It is one of those parts that gets ignored until it fails. And when it fails, good luck trying to chamber a round.

I have been "intimate" with the AR platform since 1976, and have seen it evolve first hand. Making it be all it can be. On a .308, the stresses are greater, pressures are greater, so the need for highly durable and functional parts is critical. Most using the AR in 7.62 are probably going to add a scope. With the eye relief on scopes running at about 3.5" or less, the need for a handle that works with scope overhang is a necessity.

This handle meets all of the modern day requirements, and then some. If you want a solution ahead of a problem, this is the charging handle to get.

If your tired of not being able to get to your handle past your optics; this is the product bar none! I have also found it better when using my iron sights and aim point during tactical shoots.

The handle fit well and fit and finish is excellent. I'm buying one for every rifle I have. About time someone did this.

No other charging handle compares. Oversized, ambidextrous, steel latch and locking mechanism and the biggest roll pin of any charging handle. additionally the latch bottoms out internally eliminating any stress on the roll pin.
The center release is brilliant. I will use these on all 308 AR builds going forward.

Nicely done, overbuilt, bullet proof, one per rifle, won't need replacement. I didn't expect to percieve this, but it pulls straighter and seems to be more positive; GREAT in the dark Rt or Lft handed. I was originally worried it might hang up on my vest; but it didn't.  Great fit and finish, did I mention bullet proof?  Thanks for a well done product.

After running into a small problem with my handle, (on a Stag Rifle), I shot an email over to MechArmor.  Van was back in touch with me within a couple of hours. There main concern was not my issue with there handle, but my safety. I was truly impressed with there customer service. Rick & Van quickly helped resolve my issue. I will highly recommend there handle to anyone, especially with gentlemen like this who stand behind there product.
Thanks Again

Hey guys!

I did get my DPMS Panther back together again.  My son Ty and I shared and both shot this rifle in the Potomac Precision Rifle Match, which includes 80 one-shot targets (for each shooter) from 300 to 1,340 yards.  The DPMS ran fine and we both shot well (albeit never as well as we want).

Your TacOps-1 charging handle makes it ever so much easier and quicker to load a scoped, AR-platform rifle, to clear any malfunctions and to clear the rifle.  Thanks for a great product.

Gentelmen,

I purchased one of your charging handles from Brownells after being advised of it's usefullness from a friend and fellow Ranger.  This is surprising. I couldnt feature the M16 charging handle being changed enough to make a differance, much less  such a differance.
After liiving with it for maybe 2 weeks; it changed the way I can employ the weapon. I thought it would be primarily usefull on flat-tops with long optics; but actually it's equally helpful in other ways (as you point out), even with only iron sights. At the moment I have it on my personal Armalite .308, and NOW I can get to the charging handle!!!  I'm buying another one in .223 to use on my M4 for when I deploy again.  I'm sure allot of others will do the same when they see mine.  Nothing's too good for Hodgy you know! ;)

PS: Any plans on introducing this to the Army?

Its no secret that dry firing the big ARs is a pain because the bolt is so heavy and the standard charging handle latch is so tiny, which is why I haven't really done much of it, until now. I purchased a Mech Armor Defense charging handle latch, and it makes cycling the action much easier. Also, during a precision rifle class a couple days ago, I had a double feed, and the extra purchase I got on the latch made it much easier to clear quickly.

Most are currently going overseas with troops, but the the owner was nice enough to pull one from a distributor to get it out to me in time for the class. I'm glad I found it, and I recommend it to anyone who has a big AR, which is why I'm making this post.

Awesome addition to my 3 rifles! About time someone got this figured out. This is how the charging should have been designed on the m16 from he start. It seems to be super strong, and fits a bit tighter too. Totally changed access to he handle on my scoped AR's. But I like it on he non-scope weapon too.

OUTSIDE THE BOX - GOOD JOB!
I got one for my AR10 because accessing the standard issue handle with optics made it almost impossible to get to. I now have one for my AR15 as opposed to a tacticle latch because it doesn't hang up on my vest and it's built to outlast my weapon. The ambidextrous feature is also outstanding. GREAT JOB GUYS

I picked up one of these before last weekend, and received it directly from Van, with a note (thanks, Van - I love this thing.   ).

As an appropriate back-story, I've been running a BCM Gunfighter Large latch handle in my .308 for over a year now - I was on a waiting list with BCM, and ordered the thing the very first day it was released.  That's a great handle, works fantastically under a setback scope, and it just plain works.

Now, for comparison purposes, this MechArmor handle makes the BCM Large look like a midget.  I believe somebody else mentioned this previously, and I do the same thing.  If I'm shooting prone with bags under the front of the gun, I prefer to use my right hand (firing hand) to run the charging handle and leave my left hand forward on the handguard, holding the rifle.  That wasn't happening on the .308 with the BCM, unless I did the old two-finger grip on the "T" on the handle, and that meant getting in there under the scope.

Things have changed (back) now...      I put the handle in the .308 right after I received it, and cycled it a few times with each hand - just as easy to charge with my left hand as the Large BCM, but that's where the similarities end.  It's a tremendous improvement over everything else out there, and it really shines in the ambi role it fills.  The thing is a work of art and ingenuity, really.  Very well executed, guys, very well.

Almost apples to apples? The above comparrison of our TacOps-1 Charging handle - (center) - against the BCM - (Left), and the OEM - (Right).  Is there a price differance? You bet! However seeing them side by side brings out why that cost differance exists. The TacOps-1 gives you more; more spring & roll pin for added blow-back resistance and safety; as well as our added design feature which bottoms out the latch againts the handles interior, removing and relieving most of the direct presure coming against the roll pin. The TacOps-1 is a simple and structurally strong Ambi design, without the aid of additional pins, pivot points, springs or parts; and of course the more obvious featured option, the ability to activate it from either side. So, is it really more money, or more Product?

RomeoTangoBravo  Product Evaluation  Nov/16/2011

For how often charging handles are used they are often overlooked and ignored. Many people just think they will have to make due with what is provided with the rifle. Some take the time to research other charging handle options to better suit their needs. A few of those folks end up purchasing an after-market charging handle that is often better than the standard. But there were some folks that thought they could make a better one. Out of frustration came an idea and with aerospace engineering know how and true combat experts the Mech Armor Defense TacOps-1 Charging Handle was forged.

The Claim

TacOps-1 Ambidextrous Tactical charging handle is the newest and most effective ACTUAL combat innovation that has been designed specifically for the AR platform in some time.  Not just another accessory; but a well thought out concept that dramatically changes and enhances the way your weapon is deployed, especially with optics on-board!

After watching our Charging Handle Comparison Video; Mech Armor Defense contacted us to see if we wanted to run their TacOps-1 ambidextrous charging handle through the ringer. They were very confident in their product and stated that their design had been tested and selected by several Police and Military Units along with independent reviews from folks; such as Paul Howe and Todd Jarrett. How was this handle not on our radar? We had to see one for ourselves!

Specifications
•CNC Machined 7075 T6 Aluminum Billet
•Matte Black Anodized
•40% Larger Roll Pin
•7 lbs. Spring to Prevent Blowback during Suppressed Fire
•Ergonomic, Ambidextrous Design
•T-Handle is twice the size of a standard handle
•Available for 5.56 or 7.62

First Impressions

When the TacOps-1 arrived my first reaction was that the handle was huge! I wasn't sure what to think of it. It was defiantly solid, being built of 7075 Billet, I expected as much. At first glance the design seems complex, but on closer inspection it is caveman simple. A larger roll pin for increased surface area, a large one-piece latch that operated consistently and smooth, and finally a stainless steel 7 lbs. spring for strong lock-up. As an added feature the latch is designed to bottom out internally against the handle body restricting latch travel and thereby relieving roll pin pressure. Then I saw a glint of 'gold'! I had no idea what it was or its intended purpose, so I called the TacOps-1's engineer. He told me that it was a brass insert that accomplishes three things:

1.Stabilizes the spring travel
2.It's domed and acts as a self lubricant to the mating surface of the steel latch for smooth action
3.Fits inside the spring hole to block debris from entering

The majority of ambidextrous handles on the market seem to be an after-thought. A manufacture will take an existing OEM charging handle and 'make it work' from either side. The TacOps-1 is different; you can tell right away that it was designed from the ground-up to be operated from either side more efficiently and with fewer parts than any other competitor. Was this the one charging handle to rule them all?

The Test

I headed out to my local range to put some rounds through the TacOps-1 to see how it operated. Being mid-November in Wisconsin I was wearing gloves to guard my hands from the cold and did not realize it right away, but the TacOps-1 was a dream to operate with gloves. The large T-Handle lends itself to easy manipulation with or without gloves.

I first loaded three magazines with a mixture of live and dummy rounds to force the need to clear a 'malfunction'. I did this from the right and left shoulder to see if the operation of the handle changed from either position. I didn't encounter a single issue working the handle from either shoulder (see video of demonstration).

The first three magazines were fired using a red-dot, but Mech Armor says that this handle really shines once you have a scope over it. I don't have any large optics but I still mounted a scope to see if I would be able to operate the TacOps-1 as well as before. Even with an optic over the t-handle I had no trouble clearing any malfunctions. Also worth noting was that at no point did I knock my knuckles into the forward assist; which I do repeatedly with other designs.

An issue that plagues several ambi charging handles is that in an attempt to design a truly ambidextrous handle engineers end up adding more parts (springs, pins, handles, etc.). This increases chances of a part failing, especially once debris is introduced. Not the TacOps-1; the section you engage on the rear of the t-handle and the latch in the standard location are the same piece. I wanted to see what would happen once debris was added to the equation. What I found was the TacOps-1 runs like a CHAMP! Remember that brass fitting from earlier? It ensures that sand, rocks, and mud stay away from the spring hole ensuring that, even in the worst possible conditions, you will still be able to charge your weapon.

Conclusion

While our tests may not have been as strenuous as Colt Arm's Engineering Laboratory (tested in 2010; it passed all of them); it has proven to be a 'to-hell-and-back' design. It is my firmly held belief that once the word gets out; the TacOps-1 will be the most sought after charging handle on the market. I don't think I will ever use another charging handle again and I'll be able too because the TacOps-1 is guaranteed for life.

Review of Mech Armor Charging Handle after CSAT class - 12/15/11:
I have used the Mech Armor Charging handle on my Bravo Company Upper, Stag Arms Lower in 5.56.  As a left-handed shooter, I am always on the look out for ways to make the AR platform more ambidextrous.  I also needed a charging handle that I could access easily under my 1- 4 X optic.  The Mech Armor handle gives me this ambidextrous function.  It allows me to perform malfunction drills using either hand, a real time plus.  It is sturdy and well-built.  I hope to get many years of use out of this.
Thanks.

Dear Sirs,

I received the charging handle for the .308. I found it top notch in quality and in design. It fit my AR10 Super SASS perfectly. I tried it on my POF .308 and my DPMS .308 and there were no problems in either weapon. I would like to purchase two more units. It is the best solution for the eye relief problem with scopes that have to be placed quite posteriorly. It works great even if no scope is needed or if the eye relief is adequate to begin with. Do you have my information or should I go back to the site and order two more in .308? Thanks for a great product.

Barrett REC 7

Message: Hi - Wanted to tell you that the charging handle works fine with the Barrett REC 7. Nice product, much easier to use than the original charging handle that came with the rifle. Thanks so much for the phone support on the sticky latch mechanism when I origninally received the charging handle. A little lubrication, tapping the flats on the handle with a nylon hammer, and working the latch mechanism loosened it up and it works fine. In fact, now that the handle has been in the rifle and has been subjected to recoil, vibration, etc. from being the rifle being shot, it seems to work even better. Great product. I will certainly recommend it to other people I shoot with.
